BARCS Release:
BARCS TAKES ON 2014 ASPCA RACHEL RAY $100K CHALLENGE
Community Support Needed for Chance to Win
$100,000 Grand Prize and Save More Lives
Baltimore, MD —The Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) is one of only 50 shelters in the nation participating in the 2014 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge. The $100K Challenge is a nationwide competition for animal shelters and their communities aimed at getting more animals adopted than ever before.
“The ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge is a great motivator for our team and the residents and businesses of Baltimore to get involved. We hope to connect hundreds of our adoptable cats and dogs with the right families,” said Jennifer Brause, Executive Director. “Working together, we hope to surpass last year’s adoptions by placing over 2,100 animals into new homes between June 1- August 31 and enrich the lives of new adopting families. Plus, we will have a chance at the $100,000 grant which would help us fund a portion of the in-house medical care for all of our shelter animals, including antibiotics, vaccinations, and spay and neuter surgery so that they are ready to be put up for adoption. BARCS cares for 12,000 animals annually and medical care is where funding is always most critically needed.”
The local theme for Baltimore during July is: “Become a Hometown Hero- Adopt and Animal and Save a Life”. Various local hometown heroes have been posing for BARCS social media posts that will begin on July 1.
To encourage more adoptions, BARCS is waiving the adoption fee on all cats and dogs for the month of July. Regular adoption procedures apply and the $10 pet license fee is required for Baltimore City residents.
